Omega 3: treatment of brain cancer
Omega 3 can help prevent against some forms of brain cancer.
The omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid or DHA, most commonly found in fish oil, has been shown to be not only cell protective (defense) but also possess anti-cancer properties (offense). Results of a study showed that DHA killed neuroblastoma cancer cells and that the cell generated DHA metabolites were even more effective at killing the cancer cells.
Neuroblastoma is a cancer of the sympathetic nervous system that starts in certain types of very primitive nerve cells found in an embryo or fetus. This type of cancer occurs in infants and young children and is rarely found in those older than 10 years of age.
