Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

Fact #1

The bone blues.

An unlikely but serious side effect for people taking bisphosphonates for osteoporosis is the risk of developing osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). Bisphosphonates are a class of drugs that includes the medications Fosamax and Boniva.

Osteonecrosis literally means bone death and the jaw is the typical place for this side effect to occur.
